Information and Communication Technologies are tools of social change in India. You will be wondering how? I share an example of mobile phone and its impact over society to reduce the Caste and class hierarchies. Caste and class discirmination is very much prevalent here; poor and lower caste people cannot enter into rich/high caste person's home and he is not allowed to speak with them. Now mobile phone reaches beyond this social stigma and helps this people to speak to the riches/upper castes.

However, in indian context its just beginning, the software uprising and technological boom assures economical abundance and material wealth. Meantime technology's committment towards social issues like poverty, hunger, general and maternal health are to be developed. Why don’t we invent a social software to eradicate poverty?

The recent developments of community softwares which broadly attracts the youth and the working professionals can be extended to larger society in which knowledge sharing and netwroking for a cause is possible. This kind of networks helps an individual to share thier knowledge with other interested mebers, and helps to create networks to concentrate on an issue or working together for a project.

Meantime, this new media extend its services to larger population by going beyond just “fun” . Since India filled with people, if all people join hands together for cause through this technology surely we make change. But the matter of concern is how we are going to organise people through this technology, how we are going to communicate the issue and the message to the people and how we are going to mobilise human concern and voices to make positive change.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that this kind of community portals will make positive changes because predominantly it reaches and attracts youth, the pillars of nation. But now it is just look in an entertainment point of view. For example, if we promote a coperation with civil society, political leaders, activists then it will create a way to active participation of youth into change making. For example, if a community poratl provides and oppurtunity to share their views with a leader thorugh online or whatever way, it will inspire youth and ignite their passion to move forward. Our former President APJ Abdul Kalam, made a significant change among young generations just through his interactions and sharing; human messages are that much powerful but it should be provided with flesh and blood. I believe this technologies are good, but still alienated from larger community and isolated with rich and knowledgeble. If it is taken to to the wider community and lives with them , it will create a tremendous change in which all the people will access to technology for good life and peace.
